A reinvention of the messy story. All of the animals get lost in the big mess and Jesse has to clean it up to find them all.

Glamorous Garbage

Glamorous Garbage

Summary: After coming up with a room plan to clean out her room, Bobbie adds more stuff to it, until her best cousin Joanie storms out.

Rating: 3 ***

A story lots of packrat kids can identify with. It’s about a girl who can’t bear to throw anything away, but with the help of her mom turns her trashy room into a big kids room.

The Pigeon Needs a Bath

Summary:
The Pigeon is dirty and he needs a bath, but he won’t go willingly.

Rating: 4 ****

Another silly story about the pigeon. Some pages are filled with play by play elements of the pigeon getting the bath just right. A perfect reflection of any fussy toddler.

Cookie’s Week

Cookie the cat gets into a different kind of mischief every day of the week.

Rating: 5 *****

Even though Cookie is a cat he’s a lot like a toddler making messes everywhere.

Overboard

By Sarah Weeks

overboard

Overboard

From morning to night, a young child playfully grabs and throws items, including a bathtime rubber ducky and snacktime raisins.

Rating: 4****

A super cute story. Kids will love reading about a child who does exactly what they do and loves doing it. The cadence of the story is also wonderful with each “overboard” starting after a fresh page turned. However, any parent will slightly hate this story too since it promotes an annoying habit that has to be cleaned up.

Harry the Dirty Dog

By Gene Zion

Harry the Dirty Dog
Reviewed by Children’s Book List

There’s never been another dog as delightful — or dirty — as Harry. Whether he’s a white dog with black spots, or a black dog with white spots, Harry is sure to steal your heart (and your scrub brush, too, if you’re not careful).

Rating: 4 ****

There’s not much to this story. It’s actually kind of sad because the family doesn’t even recognize the dog when it’s all dirty.

Parents in the Pigpen Pigs in the Tub

By Amy Ehrlich

Parents in the Pigpen Pigs in the Tub

Tired of their usual routine, the farm animals insist on moving into the house, so the family decides to move into the barn, but eventually everyone tires of this new arrangement.

Rating: ***

I really don’t like books that do not have consequences, but this one even goes a step further, there’s not even any discipline. The animals get to do what they want and the people just agree.
