Farmer Duck

In all kinds of weather, this downtrodden duck hauls in the sheep, tends the hens, and does the housework as well. How goes the work? the farmer repeatedly asks. Quack, the duck constantly replies–until all the barnyard animals convene to help the exhausted servant exact revenge and oust the lazy lout.

Duck on a Bike

One day down on the farm, Duck got a wild idea. “I bet I could ride a bike,” he thought. He waddled over to where the boy parked his bike, climbed on and began to ride. At first he rode slowly and he wobbled a lot, but it was fun!

There is so much that’s great about this book: trying something new, overcoming fear, and even showing individuality. That duck sure is one good role model.

As cute as the bunnies’ actions are portrayed, I always feel so bad for the farmer. This book does allow for a discussion of many topics though including how hard work can pay off, how animals get their food, and sequences.
